Toward a future without blindness

About Horizon

Horizon is a non-profit foundation founded in 2022 to support cutting-edge research into Usher syndrome and retinitis pigmentosa.

Our mission : to raise funds and accelerate medical research to help find a treatment, through the creation of projects and events.

USHER SYNDROME

Rare genetic inherited condition that affects both hearing and sight. Children are born with hearing loss or deafness, and the condition also causes Retinitis Pigmentosa : a degenerative eye disease that leads to gradual vision loss and, ultimately, blindness.

Who we are. What drives us.

BENJAMIN DEMARQUILLY

Osteopath · International Model
Founder & President of Horizon Usher Foundation
Living with retinitis pigmentosa

More than a foundation, Horizon is a project born from a personal story.

We create projects and events across different artistic disciplines (fashion, film, gastronomy, and more) in collaboration with brands and institutions to raise funds and support research.

We are convinced that awareness and advocacy can move things, change mindsets, and that creativity can open doors to horizons that seem unreachable.

The foundation began after Benjamin launched his first project : a symbolic crossing of the Atlantic Ocean, sponsored by Giorgio Armani; a step that turned his personal diagnosis into a public statement.

What started as Benjamin’s personal journey and the fulfillment of a dream became an initiative to raise awareness for those affected by Usher syndrome and retinitis pigmentosa, and to give them hope, as all the foundation’s projects aim to raise funds to find a cure for these diseases.

About us

Usher syndrome affects about 1 in 30.000 people worldwide.
It is the leading cause of combined hearing and vision loss.
